International Consultative Meeting for establishing the UNESCO-Global Learning Cities Network

PASCAL Co-director Professor Michael Osborne and Associate, Professor Norman Longworth were amongst those attending the International Consultative Meeting for establishing the UNESCO-Global Learning Cities Network (UNESCO-GLCN) in Hangzhou, China from 28 – 29 November 2012.

Professor Longworth has been advising the UNESCO-GLCN in creating indicators for this network; his presentation is featured below together with a photo showing him enjoying the evening view from the conference location with Dr Jin Yang from UNESCO UIL:

Cognitive justice and the African and global commons was the theme for the 5th Department of Science and Technology (DST)/National Research Foundation (NRF), South African Research Chair in Development Education retreat at Unisa from 24 to 30 November 2012.

Campus Compact Identifies Emergence of "Engaged Learning Economies" at U.S. Colleges & Universities

Boston, MA – A report by Campus Compact defines a new concept in civic engagement on college campuses called Engaged Learning Economies.  Initiatives at US colleges and universities, which utilize common strategies to merge civic engagement with economic development through strategic partnerships, create Engaged Learning Economies, according to the report.

Call for proposals for the Thomas J. Alexander Fellowship Programme

The OECD is launching the Thomas J. Alexander Fellowship Programme to support individuals in conducting quantitative, evidence-based research on education, particularly in emerging economies. The programme, named after a former director of the OECD’s Education, Employment, Labour and Social Affairs department, will provide funding for up to one year, including time spent at OECD headquarters in Paris.
