Limerick Stimulus Paper

A current issue for Limerick rises from the current merging of Limerick City and County Councils so that the challenge exists to develop the concept of the Learning City with that of a Learning Region. Limerick’s experience in this process is likely to provide insights for other cities facing similar challenges. Cork has been an active participant in PIE with its EcCoWell initiative so that the addition of Limerick will strengthen the already strong Irish contribution to PIE development with the se3cond and thir5d cities of Ireland now participating.... PASCAL Welcomes the City of Sydney to PIE

The City of Sydney Stimulus Paper introduces some fresh perspectives to the PASCAL International Exchanges in demonstrating how local community development can be related to a long term strategic vision for the city as a whole, with mutual benefits. The long-term strategic plan “Sustainable Sydney 2030” contains a set of goals to make Sydney green, global, and connected by 2030.  These goals range across transport, planning, environment, cultural life, and economic development.

PASCAL Welcomes Seoul to PIE (PASCAL International Exchanges)

Seoul has become the second Korean city to participate in the PIE exchanges. Korea, with China, has been one of the leaders in the rapid expansion of learning cities in East Asia in the last decade so that the addition of Seoul to the PIE exchanges will add much value in demonstrating the features that have driven learning city development in Korea.

This Stuimulus Paper by Dr Jeongyun Lee from the University of Tokyo provides insights into city policy for this initiative, as well as individual initiatives such as the Seoul Citizens College. The focus on the humanities is a point of interest to be noted, while the 2013 reorganisation of lifelong learning promotion under the slogan “happy lifelong learning wake me up and change the world” brings a distinctive note into the initiative.
