As the year 2020 comes to a close, I wish to thank you all for your interest in and actions to promote lifelong learning across the globe. I thank the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning’s partners for their outstanding collaboration over the past twelve months.

Towards Citizens Enablement | PASCAL PUMR programme has been refocused, extended and retitled

The powerful and progressive PASCAL PUMR programme has been refocused, extended, and retitled, as Citizens Enablement, following comprehensive discussions with the Leonardo Ambassadors for Corporate Learning; they believe the new title simply portrays the best that the development has to offer society, especially after COVID-19. The essence of the honed approach is still that academics can, and should, enable/empower citizens to achieve their desired aspirations, both by, and for, themselves.

The co-leads for the PASCAL International Observatory strands surrounding cultural activities and engagement met on 11 November via zoom in order to update activities of the group in two main strands- namely the Learning Cities Network (LCN) and the Special Interest Group (SIG) in this area.

Local challenges, global imperatives: Cities at the forefront to achieve SDG 4 - CIES 2021 panel

We are pleased that our proposal for a panel at the Comparative and International Education Society (CIES) 2021 has been accepted. It is entitled, Local challenges, global imperatives: Cities at the forefront to achieve SDG 4, and involves the Centre for Sustainable Healthy Learning Cities and Neighbourhoods in collaboration with the International Institute for Educational Planning (IIEP) UNESCO and the UNESCO Institute for lifelong learning (UIL),.

Notes from the second meeting of the PASCAL Learning Cities Networks “Reimagining Inclusive Economic Futures” (RIEF) on 26 Nov 2020

The first presentation was by Palmira Jucevicienne and Robertus Jucevicienne and focused on the highly successful rejuvenation of the Old Town part of Kaunas in Lithuania. It was pointed out that a Learning City does not function for itself, it is established for problem-solving and the biggest problem at the present time is that of sustainable development.
