Durban Declaration on Climate and Health
Relationships between climate change and health outcomes have been set out in the recent Durban Declaration on Climate and Health adopted at a conference of health organisations and authorities. The Declaration cites a WHO prediction that unmitigated climate change will lead to significant increases in illness and death brought on by environmental changes. The British medical journal Lancet is further cited that "climate change is the greatest global health threat of the 21st century".
The llinking of climate change and health in the Declaration raises questions for approaches to learning city development. Should we regard environment and health as two of the core objectives of sustainable learning cities? What else might be included?
