Being human in the era of the fourth industrial revolution and AI

The recent PASCAL and PIMA report on Good Active Ageing, which I edited with Denise Reghenzani Kearns, discussed the implications of the convergence of the demographic and technological revolutions. How soon superintelligence arrives is a matter of lively discussion.

This paper reviews the experience of the EcCoWell concept which was developed by PASCAL in 2012 as an approach to holistic and integrated development of learning cities.

The conclusions and recommendations of the paper were approved by the PASCAL Board in November 2017 and are now serving as the basis for implementing EcCoWell 2 as a refinement of the EcCoWell concept relevant to progressing the UN Sustainable Development Goals in towns and cities.

The PASCAL Board has asked Peter Kearns, the founder of the EcCoWell approach to learning city development, to undertake a review of progress in implementing the idea since 1992 and to report to the Board by the end of this year. The summary below provides background on the EcCoWell idea and presents some questions where I would welcome comment.
