It is my pleasure to announce the winners of the 2022 MacJannet Prize for Global Citizenship, now in its thirteenth edition. The secretariat received impressive nominations from member institutions around the world. I offer my gratitude to the program leaders and students who are implementing the Talloires Network’s values for higher education in collaboration with their local communities.
It is an honor to announce the 2022 winners:
Legal Advice Centre, Queen Mary University of London (United Kingdom), is our first place winner. The free community law centre is based in the university’s law department. It brings together undergraduate law students and volunteer qualified lawyers to provide free legal advice services and public legal education initiatives to the local community.
Teenagers in Free Enterprise, American University of Central Asia (Kyrgyzstan), is our second place winner. The program supports entrepreneurial high school students as they develop skills by way of real-life case studies and mentorship. It also runs a competition that provides winners with a 35% discount of university tuition fees.
UBANEX, University of Buenos Aires (Argentina) is our third place winner. Created in 2004, UBANEX is a framework for university extension. Thousands of university students engage with local communities annually to promote health education and provide clinical care. All university academic units participate to promote social awareness and achieve sustainable development objectives.
INTEGRA, Universidad Camilo José Cela (Spain) received honorable mention. Proyecto INTEGRA facilitates the transition and acclimation of young refugees and families entering Spain. The program offers opportunities for development by providing professional job training, access to higher education, and promoting critical thinking.
Code4All, Ashesi University (Ghana) received honorable mention. Code4All is a student-founded and led program that aims to empower high school students from underserved communities. The Initiative provides mentorship and teaches computer programming to youth from rural and underrepresented backgrounds.
