The Talloires Network E-Newsletter - April 2015

The Talloires Network is one of the partners with whom PASCAL collaborates. The Network enjoys a high profile and is among the several national and international bodies encouraging universities worldwide to adopt a more centrally-focussed universities' 'third mission' commitment to community service in its different senses and settings.

Tony MonacoDear Colleagues,

Later this year the Talloires Network will turn ten years old. We’ve experienced tremendous growth in the number of institutions that have joined our vision for a community-centered university. But in many ways, our network is still young and just getting started.

In this month’s newsletter, we share a new report on our most recent gathering, the 2014 Talloires Network Leaders Conference in Cape Town, South Africa. We also share exciting news about a recent publication by our Executive Director Rob Hollister, who narrates the story of civic engagement in our university and how it led to the idea for a global network of engaged universities in his article, “Building a University-Wide College of Citizenship and Public Service.

It is also a time of reflection for us, as we mourn the recent death of one of our Steering Committee leaders, Sir David Watson. His colleagues around the world took time to share their memories of David and celebrate his contributions to our movement. Take a moment to read our compilation of remembrances honoring him.

As always, this edition of the newsletter highlights leaders in the civic engagement movement, shares important resources from our regional partner networks, and informs you about conferences in Australia, Argentina, Egypt, and Italy.

Best wishes,
Tony Monaco
