Link to PIMA Webinar on Climate Change, resource extraction and ALE – what are the links?

This was the third in PIMA’s Climate Justice and ALE webinar series and was co-hosted by PIMA, CASAE, and SCUTREA. The webinar was recorded and the link is available https://www.casae-aceea.ca/webinars/.

In preparation, the 120 people registrants were invited to watch beforehand the documentary ‘Women hold up the sky’, produced by WoMin African Alliance. This remarkable film tells the story of women’s struggles in Uganda, South Africa, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo for their lives and livelihoods in the face of demands of mining companies – which one woman described as a struggle between "a squirrel and an elephant"!

After the scene was set by Trusha Reddy of WoMin African Alliance and Judith Marshall, a Canadian popular educator, and researcher, into the impacts of mining on the environment and accelerated climate change, Shauna Butterwick leads an analysis of the learning practices of the women in the film.

The webinar has elicited very favourable comments both for the quality of the contributions and for PIMA’s Climate Justice and ALE webinar series. Thank you for your interest in this work.
