Latest developments of the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities (GNLC)

We would like to inform you about the latest developments of the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities (GNLC), led by the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL).

More than 220 cities from around the world have joined the network since its opening to membership in 2015, and now a set of animated video tutorials have been launched to support members in the process of becoming learning cities. The tutorials are based on the Guidelines for Building Learning Cities and consist of seven infographic animation videos addressing cities around the world to support them in the process of building learning cities.

The video tutorials cover the following topics: introduction to the concept of a learning city and to the tutorials, planning, involving stakeholders, celebrating learning, ensuring that learning is accessible to everyone, monitoring and evaluating progress, and securing sustainable funding. The tutorials are available in all six UN official languages (English, French, Spanish, Russian, Arabic and Chinese). UIL is also planning a number of national and regional training workshops based on the video tutorials. These workshops are meant to equip policy-makers, city representatives and other stakeholders with the knowledge and skills needed to implement learning city development.
