Silatech Hosts Consultation in Amman, Jordan
"The Role of Civic Engagement in Higher Education"

On February 9 and 10, 2014, Innovations in Civic Participation kicked off a core component of the University Civic Engagement Initiative with a two-day consultation in Amman, Jordan, hosted by partner organization Silatech. The consultation was attended by over 35 university presidents and senior administrators from countries in the Arab world, who discussed the current rise of civic and community engagement in higher education in the region.

 


U.S.-Japan Council Collegiate Civic Engagement Program

TOMODACHI

This program focuses on enhancing the leadership potential of Japanese university students and enabling university faculty to create institutional practices for civic engagement programs. On Feb 17-21, 2014, nine representatives from Japanese universities traveled to Providence, Rhode Island and Washington, D.C. on a study tour to the best civic engagement university programs in the area. Student civic engagement is important for both countries and this program will create an ongoing partnership which will serve as a resource to gather ideas, disseminate information, and broaden civil service.

Small grants program underway
Silatech and ICP are pleased to invite universitites in Egypt, Morocco, Palestine, Tunisia and Yemen to apply for grants in their University Civic Engagement Initiative. Five universities will receive grants to assist senior-level university administrators in developing and implementing policies and programs that advance institutional change and enhance civic engagement on their campuses and in their communities.
National Youth Service Learning Forum Report

This report is the culmination of the National Youth Service Learning Forum, held in Johannesburg, South Africa in November 2013. The report is the result of the joint efforts of ICP and VOSESA, and summarizes the program's research on the benefits of national youth service on youth employability in Sub-Saharan Africa. In addition, it provides insight on how to strengthen NYS programs in the region in the future. The report can be found on the ICP website. 

SummerTrek 2014
ICP is currently accepting applications from youth development organizations and schools interested in becoming a SummerTrek Pilot Site for 2014. See the link below for more information.

 

Meet Our New
Staff Members
Sydney K. Taylor has recently joined the staff of ICP as a Program Officer. Sydney will be working on the SummerTrek program for middle school youth.

In January of 2014, ICP welcomed three new interns from The Washington Center, an independent non-profit organization that provides internships and academic experiences for university students.
