Socio-economic benefits of green growth for Copenhagen

Green Growth Leaders have released a useful study on the socio-economic benefits of being a green undertaken for Copenhagen. The study shows that Copenhagen's green city strategy has not only brought reductions in CO2 emissions, decreased pollution, improved quality of life, but has also brought impressive economic development. During the period 2004 to 2009 there was a 77% increase in green exports from the Copenhagen region with an annual growth rate of around 12%. During the period that green exports grew in this way, it was the fastest growing export sector while other sectors experienced negative growth. The study outlines 7 examples of green initiatives implemented in Copenhagen and analyses their positive economic and social effects.

The report is titled "Copenhagen - Beyond Green" develops the argument that green growth requires a broader perspective than only environmental. It is not only about reducing CO2 emissions, but is also about improving quality of life and creating jobs and business opportunities throughout the entire economy.
