Kampala City Stimulus Paper

Kampala City has evolved from a small town of 8 km2 through a “City of Seven hills” at independence in 1962 to one of the fastest growing cities in Africa. Today Kampala City occupies more than twenty five hills that include Makerere Hill on which the country’s biggest and oldest university is located (Kibirige, 2006). The hills have steep slopes separated by wide valleys. The city derives its name from the land of “Impala” (antelope) that roamed the area before it was taken over for human settlement.

Italian Learning Cities Network protocol of common interest with the Association of Local Democracy Agencies

The Italian Learning Cities Network has signed a protocol of common interest with the Association of Local Democracy Agencies.  ALDA was established in 1999 as an initiative of the Council of Europe's Congress of Local and Regional Authorities to coordinate and support a network of Local Democracy Agencies which was established in the early 1990s.

The Nordic Centre of Heritage Learning has been commissioned by The European Commission Access to Culture Platform to study a collection of examples from all over Europe on extraordinary meetings between cultural or artistic experiences and education or learning in a broader sense.

Here is a useful website about Cities of Opportunity.  Here you can download the fourth edition of Cities of Opportunity, 2011. As the site says, this year the report covers 26 cities and presents in-depth results covering all 10 indicators and 66 variables, examines issues and adds insight from urban thinkers and influencers.

R3L+ - Quality in Learning Cities - reports now available

National Reports from the R3L+ project on the state of the art in Learning Cities in Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Lithuania, Romania, Scotland and Sweden, together with regional/city reports from Germany, Bucharest, Dundee, Kaunas. Engaging in Lifelong Learning: Shaping Inclusive and Responsive University Strategies. European Universities Association Report

Attached is the SIRUS report, Engaging in Lifelong Learning: Shaping Inclusive and Responsive University Strategies, by Hanne Smidt  and Andrée Sursock, which is based on material prepared by representatives of the 29 participating European universities.  It is based on a study of the institutional lifelong learning strategies of these universities by the European Universities Association, who suggest that frank and open discussions provided invaluable insights into strategic institutional development.

Living and Learning in EcCoWell Cities - Discussion Paper
