Making good society - Final report of the Commission of Inquiry into the Future of Civil Society in the UK and Ireland

The Commission of Inquiry into the Future of Civil Society was established to explore how civil society could be strengthened in the UK and Ireland. The Inquiry Commission was chaired by Geoff Mulgan and was also informed by an International Advisory Group.

The objectives of the Inquiry were to:

Interview with Professor Bruce Wilson, PASCAL Observatory Co-Director on the PIE project for IED Magazine

Recently Professor Bruce Wilson was interviewed by the Hume Global Learning Village for their quarterly magazine: Imagine, Explore, Discover (IED) Spring edition about the PASCAL International Exchanges (PIE) project, which PASCAL Observatory is currently running.  A copy of the interview follows and the IED magazine is also included.

PIE Briefing Paper 3 : Progress to a New Stage

The PASCAL International Exchanges (PIE) project is now well-established with a set of ten quality stimulus papers on the PIE web space and with other cities expected to participate soon. This has provided a rich pool of information and experience and innovative ideas that all participating cities can benefit from.

In order to extend and deepen this dialogue, PIE will now progress to a further stage of development which will involve:

a) re-structuring of the PIE web space on the basis of five Major Themes for the next stage of PIE development; and

The Stockholm Memorandum - Tipping the Scales towards Sustainability

This publication has been produced following the 3rd Nobel Laureate Symposium on Global Sustainability (Stockholm, Sweden, 16-19 May 2011).  The Nobel Laureate Symposium Series on Global Sustainability was initiated in 2007 at
Potsdam and continued by the St James’s Palace Symposium in spring 2009. This Symposium series unites Nobel Laureates of various disciplines, top-level representatives from politics and NGOs, and renowned experts on sustainability.

Shanghai International Forum on Lifelong Learning - Papers now available

The papers from the May 2010 UNESCO Shanghai International Forum on Lifelong Learning are now available and can be downloaded from a UNESCO site. The Forum was convened by the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning at the time of the Shanghai World Expo 2010 in association with a number of Chinese organisations including the Chinese Society of Educational Development Strategy and the Chinese National Commission for UNESCO.
