Brisbane Science of Learning Research Centre

A Science of Learning Research Centre has been established in the Queensland Brain Institute located in the University of Queensland.  The Centre combines research from neuroscience, education, advanced imaging and psychology to advance learning from preschool to all phases of lifelong learning. Researchers from three lead institutions will contribute to the work of the Centre: the University of Melbourne, Australian Council for Educational Research, and University of Queensland.  In addition, links are being forged with a number of other universities ; Flinders, Deakin, New England, Charles Darwin, and Macquarie.

The Centre is a Special Research Initiative of the Australian Research Council which brings together researchers from different disciplines. Two experimental classrooms are being established, one at University of Melbourne and the other at the University of Queensland.

This is the latest of a number of innovations undertaken by the Queensland Brain Institute. These include the Clem Jones Centre for Ageing Dementia Research which recently received a grant of $9 million from the Australian Government. QBI itself is receiving a grant of $11.865 from the Australian Government. The work of QBI can be followed in its newsletter - QBI Neuroscience News or on the website www.qbi.uq.edu.au.
