A Reimagining the Cities Initiative from Environment and Planning in the School of Global, Urban and Social Studies, jointly with SURF and the EU Centre
Moulaert argues that arguments in favour of ‘more economy’ in urban policy are dangerous to the future of cities.
The role of the economy and its relations with people’s need satisfaction and society-building are misunderstood in contemporary policy studies.
Moulaert explains why and how the meaning of the economy and economic activities should be ‘reset’.
To do this, a wide consultation among ‘users of the city’, citizens and experts alike, should be organised.
This would allow rediscovery of the diverse meanings and impacts of the economy on city life as the basis of an inclusive but also economically more efficient urban policy.
About Frank Moulaert:
Professor Frank Moulaert is Professor of Spatial Planning, Head of the Planning and Development Unit ASRO, and Chairman of the Leuven Research Centre on Space and Society, Faculty of Engineering, KU Leuven, Belgium.
His research covers urban and regional development, social science theories and methods, but especially social innovation (www.frankmoulaert.net [1]).
He is the Coordinator of the Social Polis platform (www.socialpolis.eu [2]) an has coordinated 4 other FP projects (URSPIC, SINGOCOM, VALICORES, KATARSIS)
