Dr. Orna Mager, holding a doctorate in economics and business management, established and directs the Multi-Disciplinary Center in Modi'in, Israel, where she is developing the Learning City model for local authorities in Israel. This Center affords a unique pioneering model in developing programs that are based on the principles of "Lifelong Learning" and "active citizenship".
Dr. Mager has established and leads the Israeli Center for Learning Cities, a startup incubator for the learning cities network established in Israel, which is a catalyst for developing shared programs and models for the learning cities together with the Israel Union of Local Authorities, the Ministry of Education, The Israel Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Association for Adult Education in Israel, the Joint, the Employment Bureau and other organizations. Furthermore, the Center works with UNESCO, with the Pascal International Observatory, with the Forum Future Foundation, and with the European Union. She develops innovative projects and models for the employment advancement of people aged 40+ to advance gender equality, to promote the quality of life and active citizenship for diverse sectors in society, together with Erasmus and other organizations.
Dr. Mager heads the Directors Union of the Institutions for Adult Education in Israel, and leads the public discourse regarding Lifelong Learning with the Union at national conferences and amongst policy makers, in order to promote a learning society in Israel.
In the framework of her additional work as the Mayor's advisor on the Status of Women, she founded and led the National Association to Advance Gender Equality together with the Prime Minister's Office, the Union of Local Authorities, the Committee for the Status of Women in Parliament, and other national organizations to further the status of women in the various sectors in Israel. Under her direction, the Association leads a national agenda to assimilate gender equality in all the local authorities in Israel, and in all sectors.
